Women Victorious In Season Opener

From the start of the first race of a new year, B.U.'s Bolpar Vinh, last year's MVP and America East Champion, surged out to lead the race virtually from the gun. Michelle Palmer of Vermont followed closely, while a pack of Terriers, Jennifer Kehoe, Rachel Felton, Kathryn Ireland, and Lauren Matthews were a few seconds back. By 2 miles, Vinh of BU and Palmer of Vermont were locked in a tight race, while the Terriers had secured a strong grip on the team win, with a group of five placed in the front six and another group of three, Hawkins, Mijuskovic, and Hincman separated by just two other runners. Palmer broke open a six second lead with six hundred meters to go, proving enough of a gap to secure the win. Rachel Felton finished up well to nab the third spot, just ahead of teammates Jennifer Kehoe, Lauren Matthews, and Kathryn Ireland. Finishing in spots nine, ten, and eleven were Terriers freshman Dina Mijuskovic, senior Emily Hawkins, and freshman Julia Hincman, running her first cross country race ever.
The next event up for the Terriers will be Iona's Meet of Champions, to be held at Van Cortlandt Park, in the Bronx of New York City, on September 29.
