Dieckfoss Finishes 87th At NCAA Meet

Terrier freshman Jochen Dieckfoss (Tubingen, Germany) closed out his initial collegiate cross country season, and the season in general for the Terrier team, when he finished 87th at the NCAA Division 1 Championships hosted by Iowa State University on November 20th.

Dieckfoss, who had earned an invitation to the meet by virtue of his ninth-place finish at the Northeast Regional Meet on November 11th, placed 87th at the NCAAs. He was clocked in 31:39. Providence's Keith Kelly won the meet in a time of 30:14.

His running at the NCAA's capped off a very successful season for Dieckfoss.

He opened the season by placing second in the inaugural meet vs. UMass/Amherst, Vermont, Maine, and Central Connecticut.

Then, in the Meet of Champions that was hosted by Iona College, he was the fifth overall runner and fourth collegian to cross the finish line.

Next on the schedule was the New England Championships. Again, he was the top Terrier to finish as he was seventh overall to lead the Terriers to a ninth-place finish.

Then came the America East championships where he turned in a 25:01.47, which was the ninth fastest time in the 13-year history of the men's championship. His performance helped lead the Terriers to the overall team title, unseating two-time defending champion University of New Hampshire.

Then came the final tuneup before the NCAA's-the Northeast Regional Meet at Van Cortlandt Park in New York. It was here that he finished in ninth place with a time of 31:20.3 and an invitation to the NCAA's.
